To be eligible to apply for Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars scholarships, you must be graduating from high school this June, be a permanent resident of the Shenendehowa Central School District, and be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution (one, two or four years of study).  Two letters of reference are required - one from a teacher and one from someone who knows you well and can speak to your character.  Note that you are not required to submit FAFSA information to us unless a particular scholarship for which you are applying is described as "need-based".

IMPORTANT:  THE ONLY SHENENDEHOWA DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS APPLICATION FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS THAT WE OFFER IS ON LINE!

If you are a permanent resident of the Shenendehowa Central School District, be sure to enter "Shenendehowa" in the prompt requesting your school district;  otherwise, you will not be eligible to apply for our scholarships. If you need assistance or have any questions, contact your school counselor or e-mail shendfs@gmail.com.

All applications will be rendered anonymous to the Scholarship Committee to assure fair and objective selections.  All applicants will be considered for general Dollars for Scholars awards provided applications are completed and submitted by the stated deadline.  For most scholarships, students will be evaluated based on school and community service or employment, academic achievement, personal essay, letters of reference, and special circumstances (submit an additional essay describing how and when any unusual family or personal circumstances have affected your achievement or involvement in extra-curricular activities).

Letters of reference:  Other than the Knights of Columbus Scholarship, no more than two (2) letters must be submitted no matter how many scholarships for which the student may be applying.  However, if you are applying for a particular named scholarship, be sure that at least one of the letters addresses the requirements of that scholarship.  For example, if you wish to be considered for the Susan Jill Hughes Memorial Scholarship, you must have a letter that describes your qualifications to be an elementary school teacher. To be considered for a Knights of Columbus Scholarship, you do need to submit an additional letter of reference from a church official confirming that you are an active Catholic.

Financial Information:  Note that you are not required to submit FAFSA information to us unless a particular scholarship for which you are applying is described as "need-based". If you voluntarily submit financial information, you may be considered for other outside sources of assistance but it is not required for the scholarships we currently award.  This information is waived by us.

The following are sponsored scholarships:

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - ROLAND FELANO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS require a letter from a priest or deacon or religious education coordinator stating the student is a practicing Roman Catholic in addition to the general requirements.  You may be affiliated with any Catholic church but because the Knights at St. Edward's Church are the sponsors, students belonging to that parish are given preference.  ($500 minimum - several available).
