To be eligible to apply for Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars scholarships, you must be a graduating high school student, be a permanent resident of the Shenendehowa Central School District, and be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution (one, two or four years of study).  Students attending any high school and home-schoolers are all eligible and encouraged to apply. The "Primary Reference" is required for all scholarships but an additional essay or reference information may be required in order to submit for some of our other scholarships. It is a good idea to have your counselor or a teacher complete the "primary reference" and submit another letter from someone who knows you well and can speak to your character.  There is a section named "Other Documents" where you may upload any additional information. Points are objectively assigned for each category. "SUBMIT" FOR EVERY SCHOLARSHIP FOR WHICH YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE!

If you are a permanent resident of the Shenendehowa Central School District, be sure to enter "SHENENDEHOWA" in the prompt requesting your school district;  otherwise, you will not be directed to all of the scholarships offered by our organization. If you need assistance or have any questions, contact your school counselor or e-mail shendfs@gmail.com.

All applications will be rendered anonymous to the Awards Committee to assure fair and objective selections.  Be sure to select Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars general scholarships plus all other named scholarships for which you think you may be eligible based on the criteria established. Check into "your profile" on a regular basis as new awards may be posted from time to time and - MOST IMPORTANT - make sure your application is complete and submitted by the stated deadline: MARCH 15TH, 2024.  General criteria for selecting recipients includes school and community service or employment, academic achievement, personal essay (goals & objectives), letters of reference, and unusual circumstances (submit an additional essay describing how and when any unusual family or personal circumstances have affected your achievement or involvement in extra-curricular activities).  The donors of Named Scholarships usually include special criteria of their own choosing. In your written essay, tell us why you are an appropriate candidate. Submit a letter of reference that also describes how you meet the criteria. For example, the Susan Jill Hughes Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated a special interest in becoming an elementary school teacher and whose character is described as suitable. BE SURE TO "SUBMIT" EVERY SCHOLARSHIP FOR WHICH YOU SHOULD BE CONSIDERED!

Financial Information:  Note that you are not required to submit FAFSA information to us unless a particular scholarship for which you are applying is described as "need-based". If you voluntarily submit financial information, you may be considered for other outside sources of assistance but it is not required for most of the scholarships we currently award.

Please see "SCHOLARSHIPS" for details regarding each of the special named scholarships.  Note that your personal essay should discuss the importance of family and the people in your life who have influenced you with the choice of a particular career or path in life.
